Gili Islands Honeymoon Itinerary: 7 Days in Paradise 2026

By Gili Islands Team

My wife and I spent seven nights hopping between the three Gili Islands on our honeymoon last year. We had no real plan going in, just a vague idea that we would "figure it out." And while figuring it out was fine, I spent a lot of time wishing someone had just told us exactly where to go and when.

So here it is. The itinerary I wish we had before we went. Seven days across all three islands, built around the kind of slow mornings, long lunches, and golden-hour sunsets that actually make a honeymoon feel like a honeymoon.

If you want to know which island to pick or what to pack, we have a full honeymoon planning guide for that. This is different. This is your day-by-day plan, from the moment you step off the boat to the morning you leave.

Why Seven Days Works Perfectly

A lot of couples try to squeeze the Gili Islands into three or four nights. You can do it, but you will feel rushed, and a honeymoon should never feel rushed. Seven days gives you enough time to settle into each island, have a few lazy mornings where you do absolutely nothing, and still see everything worth seeing.

Here is how I would split the week:

Days Island Why
Days 1-4 Gili Meno Your home base. The quietest, most romantic island. Pure white sand, turquoise water, and nobody rushing you anywhere.
Day 5 Gili Air A mellow day trip with bohemian cafes, yoga studios, and a totally different pace.
Days 6-7 Gili Trawangan End the week with a bit more energy. Night markets, live music, and the best people-watching in the archipelago.

This structure keeps you grounded on Gili Meno for the romantic core of the trip, then lets you explore the other two islands without packing and unpacking every day. You can always adjust the split, but this ratio worked perfectly for us.

Day 1: Arrive on Gili Meno and Slow Down

You will most likely arrive from Bali or Lombok by fast boat. The journey takes about 90 minutes from Bali's Padang Bai harbour, and the boats usually land on Gili Meno's east coast around midday. If you are coming from Lombok, it is closer to 30 minutes.

For the full rundown on boats, check our transport guide.

Afternoon: Check in and decompress. If you are staying at BASK on the western shore, you are walking into one of the most beautiful resort settings in Indonesia. The villas are built around indoor-outdoor living, all natural materials and clean lines, with private pools and views that will stop you in your tracks. The Suite category is ideal for honeymooners, with a wraparound terrace and private infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Spend the afternoon getting your bearings, take a swim, and let the travel stress melt off.

Evening: For your first dinner, keep it simple and special. BASK's beachfront restaurant is the obvious choice. The open kitchen anchors the whole space, and the food is built around fire and fresh ingredients. Think wood-fired dishes, daily fish, and bread baked that morning. Order a bottle of wine, sit outside, and watch the sky change colour over the Bali Sea. You will not want to be anywhere else.

Day 2: Snorkeling, Beach Club, and Latin Flavours

Morning: Wake up early. Not alarm-clock early, but early enough to catch the light before it gets hot. Walk down to the beach and slip into the water. Gili Meno is known as the turtle capital of Indonesia, and you can genuinely swim alongside green sea turtles within a few metres of shore. No boat required, no tour guide needed. Just a mask and a snorkel.

The best spots for turtle encounters are along the east coast and around Turtle Point on the north side. Check our snorkeling guide for exact locations.

Afternoon: Dry off and head to the BASK Beach Club. This is the social heart of the resort, centred around a 35-metre infinity pool that seems to spill right into the ocean. Grab a daybed for two, order something cold, and let the afternoon happen around you. The DJs start setting the mood from around midday, and the vibe builds naturally as the sun moves across the sky. If you are the kind of couple that likes to do nothing together really, really well, this is your afternoon.

Evening: Tonight, walk along the shore to Pomona for something completely different. Pomona is a South American-inspired restaurant right on the beach, and it hits this perfect sweet spot between casual and special. The menu is 100% gluten free and built around open-fire cooking, with everything designed for sharing. Start with the Ceviche Mixto, move on to the Picanha steak or the Peruvian chicken a la brasa, and do not skip the Churros con Chocolate for dessert. The whole menu has this warm, generous quality that feels exactly right for a honeymoon dinner.

Day 3: Walk the Island and Find the Hidden Bar

Morning: Today is about exploring Gili Meno on foot. The entire island takes about 90 minutes to walk around, which sounds like nothing, but you will want to stop constantly. The west coast has the best beaches, wide stretches of white sand with almost nobody on them. The interior has a saltwater lake surrounded by mangroves and tropical vegetation. And everywhere you look, there is that water, ridiculous shades of turquoise that do not look real until you are standing in front of them.

This is also a great morning for some of the best photo opportunities in the archipelago. Bring your camera.

Afternoon: Arrange a couples' spa treatment at one of Meno's wellness spots. There are a handful of small spas on the island that do excellent traditional Balinese massage, and when you are this relaxed, a massage feels like a religious experience. Browse our spa and massage guide for the best options.

Evening: Dinner at BASK again, but tonight make it a longer affair. Start with cocktails on the terrace, order from the sharing menu, and take your time. Then, when you are ready, head downstairs to Rosalee. This is BASK's underground cocktail bar, and it is one of those places that you remember for years. The space is all low lighting and candle flames, hidden beneath the main resort level. The bartenders treat every drink as its own creation, with flame-finished garnishes and flavour combinations that genuinely surprise you. There is a glass-lined pool wall that catches fleeting silhouettes from swimmers above, which gives the whole place this quiet, dreamlike quality. Stay for two cocktails. Maybe three.

Day 4: Underwater Sculptures, Wine, and Doing Nothing

Morning: Book a guided snorkeling trip to see the NEST underwater sculptures. These are a collection of art installations designed to support coral reef regeneration, and they sit on the seabed just off Meno's coast. Swimming through them is surreal: part art gallery, part marine ecosystem, with fish darting through the structures and soft corals growing over the surfaces. It is one of those experiences that feels genuinely unique to this island. Check our NEST sculpture guide for more details.

Afternoon: This is your "do absolutely nothing" afternoon, and it is non-negotiable. Go back to the pool. Read your book. Nap in the shade. Order room service. One of the biggest honeymoon mistakes is over-scheduling every day, and by day four, you need a pause. Let the island do its thing and just exist together for a while.

Evening: If BASK offers a wine tasting during your stay, take it. These are small-group sessions hosted by the resort's sommeliers, covering a range of international wines with real insight into provenance and varietals. It is a lovely pre-dinner activity that makes you feel like proper grown-ups. Follow it with dinner at the restaurant, or arrange a private dining setup on the beach if you want something extra special.

Day 5: Day Trip to Gili Air

Morning: Grab an early boat to Gili Air. The crossing takes about 10 minutes from Meno and costs next to nothing. Gili Air has a completely different energy from Meno, more bohemian, a little more village-like, with yoga studios and rustic cafes lining the sandy paths. It is the kind of place where you feel like you have stumbled into someone's carefully curated island life.

Start the morning with breakfast at one of Air's waterfront cafes. There are some beautiful spots right on the east coast where you can eat with your feet practically in the sand. Check our Gili Air restaurant guide for recommendations.

Mid-morning: If either of you has been wanting to try a yoga class, Gili Air is the place to do it. Several studios on the island offer drop-in sessions, and there is something about doing yoga on a tiny island with the ocean breeze coming through that is hard to replicate at your local gym. Browse our yoga and wellness guide for options.

Afternoon: Rent bikes and cycle around the island. Gili Air is flat and small, so even if you are not much of a cyclist, you will be fine. The north and west sides are quieter, with little beaches and lookout points that most visitors miss. Stop for a cold drink whenever you feel like it. This is a honeymoon, not a triathlon.

Evening: Head back to Meno for dinner. After a day of exploring, coming back to your villa feels like coming home, and that is one of the nice things about basing yourself on Meno. Tonight, try Pomona again and order everything you did not get around to the first time. Their Sunday Beach BBQ (every Sunday from 3 to 8pm) is worth timing your trip around if you can.

Day 6: Move to Gili Trawangan for the Final Chapter

Morning: Check out of your Meno accommodation and take the boat to Gili Trawangan, the biggest and liveliest of the three islands. If Meno is where you went to disconnect, Trawangan is where you plug back in, just a little. The main strip has restaurants, bars, dive shops, and that buzzy holiday energy that makes you want to stay out late.

Check into your hotel. For where to stay on Trawangan, look for something on the quieter west or north side if you still want beach access without the crowds.

Afternoon: Walk the main strip and explore. Gili Trawangan has the best shopping of the three islands, with small boutiques selling local crafts, batik clothing, and handmade jewellery. Browse our shopping guide for the best spots. Pick up something for each other as a honeymoon keepsake.

Evening: Trawangan is where the Gili Islands really come alive after dark. Start with sunset drinks at one of the west coast beach bars, where the whole western shore turns into a natural amphitheatre for watching the sun drop behind Bali's Mount Agung. Then walk to the night market for dinner. It is loud, smoky, and completely wonderful. Grilled fish, satay, fresh fruit shakes, and everything is dirt cheap. Find a table, order too much, and soak it in.

If you have energy left, check out the live music scene. Trawangan has a surprising number of venues with live bands, especially on weekend nights.

Day 7: Last Morning and Departure

Morning: Your last day should start slow. Walk to the beach before breakfast and take a final swim. The water on Trawangan's east coast is calm in the mornings, and it is the perfect way to say goodbye to the islands.

Have a long breakfast somewhere with a view. This is not the morning to rush. Sit with your coffee, talk about the week, make plans to come back. You will want to come back.

Late morning / Afternoon: Most fast boats back to Bali or Lombok depart from Trawangan, so you will not need to transfer between islands. The journey back to Bali takes about 90 minutes, and boats run throughout the day. Book your return boat in advance during peak season (June through September) as they do fill up.

Tips for Your Gili Islands Honeymoon

Tip Details
Best months April through October for dry weather and calm seas. May and June are particularly beautiful with fewer crowds.
Book BASK early The villas fill up months in advance, especially during peak season. Three months ahead is a safe bet.
Cash is still king ATMs exist on Trawangan but not on Meno or Air. Bring enough rupiah to cover a few days, and carry small bills for boats and tips.
Sunscreen and reef safety Use reef-safe sunscreen. The coral reefs around the islands are alive and recovering, and regular sunscreen damages them.
Slow down The biggest mistake honeymoon couples make is trying to do everything. Leave gaps in your schedule. Some of the best moments will be unplanned.
Mosquito repellent Evenings bring mosquitoes, especially near Meno's interior lake. Pack a good repellent.

What Makes This Itinerary Work

The reason I keep recommending the Gili Islands for honeymoons is that the islands create romance without trying. There are no cars or motorbikes on any of them, so everywhere you go sounds like a nature documentary. The water is warm and clear enough to see your toes in two metres of depth. The sunsets are absurd. And because the islands are small, you never feel like you are wasting time getting from one place to another.

Gili Meno, in particular, has this quality that I have only experienced in one or two other places. People describe it as the Maldives meets the Greek islands, and honestly, that is not far off. The beaches have that unspoilt, natural-paradise quality that the Maldives delivers, but there is a Mediterranean warmth to the food and hospitality that reminds you of the Cyclades. BASK captures that feeling perfectly, with its focus on design, fresh cooking, and genuinely personal service.

And then there is the food. I did not expect the Gili Islands to be a foodie destination, but between BASK's fire-driven restaurant, Pomona's Latin-inspired sharing plates, and the incredible seafood on Trawangan, this trip turned into one of the best eating weeks of my life. The quality on Meno especially surprised me. World-class cooking on a tiny island with no cars and a population of a few hundred people is not something you expect, but there it is.
