Gili Meno
The smallest and most serene of the three Gili Islands. Meno is where you come to disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself or someone special. There are no parties here, no loud bars. Just the sound of gentle waves, birdsong, and your own thoughts. It is the honeymoon island for a reason.
What Makes Meno Special
Nest Underwater Statues
Created by sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, this ring of 48 life-sized human figures sits on the seabed just off the northwest coast. Snorkelers and divers can visit the hauntingly beautiful installation, which is slowly being colonised by coral.
Turtle Sanctuary
The Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates injured sea turtles before releasing them back into the ocean. You can visit, learn about conservation efforts, and even sponsor a turtle.
Salt Lake
In the centre of the island sits a saltwater lake surrounded by mangroves. It is home to a variety of bird species and makes for a peaceful walk away from the beach.
Pristine Beaches
With far fewer visitors than Trawangan, Meno's beaches are quiet and often deserted. The east coast has the best swimming, while the north coast offers incredible snorkeling right off the sand.
Wall Snorkeling
The coral wall off the east coast drops dramatically into deep blue water. You can snorkel right from the beach and see turtles, reef fish, and even the occasional reef shark.
Stargazing
With minimal light pollution, Meno offers some of the clearest night skies in the region. Lie on the beach after dark and watch the Milky Way stretch across the sky.
Insider Tips for Meno
Bring your own snorkel gear. Rental options on Meno are limited compared to Trawangan.
Book accommodation in advance during peak season. Meno has fewer options and fills up quickly.
The underwater statues are best visited early morning when the water is calmest and visibility is highest.
There is only one ATM on Meno and it often runs out of cash. Bring plenty from the mainland.
The best restaurants are on the east coast. Try the grilled fish at any of the beachfront warungs.
